Happy Holidays!

Annual Christmas bonfires along the levee in Lutcher,Louisiana off Hwy 641 near Gramercy. Crowds were a bit smaller this year, mainly due to the rain during the day which made for some wet and muddy levees. My knees and D3 are proof of the mud. Check out the Fleur de Lis bonfire for the Saints!

And now on to Mr and Mrs.......

Well it only took one full year to get some images of this wedding blogged, even though they are on my first page on my website :), and have been posted a few time on Facebook as well.

So Happy 1st Year Anniversary! Maybe one day we'll be able to shoot again in New Orleans, we still need one day where it's not 30 degrees and when it's also not humid as hell! Maybe we should try it in San Diego, I hear the weather's always 76 degrees.

This was one planned out wedding, no joking, the bride has one awesome blog about the wedding, planning, and everything else that went in to making this day happen. - http://monkeywed.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-sweet-it-is-getting-ready-pt-1.html

Photographing the Dalai Lama, NYC October 2009

So I have to go back more than a month here, but the last month of Sept and the first week of October were a crazy blur. After coming home from the NYC wedding, I received an email from Phong Doan who happens to be on the same Leica User list as me. He's emailing to know if I could come to NYC to photograph the Dalai Lama. What??? Holy.......! Um, yes! Let me know when I have to be there! This is 4 days after I got home from NYC, so now I'm going back to NYC, and staying across the street from the hotel we just stayed at. Of course this time I'm staying in the same hotel as the Dalai Lama, while the previous week I was at the same hotel as Ahmadinejad so I'd say this was step up in the right direction.

Just before I flew up I found out I'll be photographing with Kyle Cassidy, Tina Manley and Emanuel Lowi. Oh yeah, we've got this covered for sure!

The event reminded me allot of capturing a wedding, but with much more security. Lots of waiting, lots running around, all good fun.

Highlight for me was getting to shake the Dalai Lama's hand. Kyle and I were shooting him as he came into the Waldorf to meet the Vietnamese Community, The Six Paramitas, who was sponsoring the event. So after discussing the arrival with security, we would shoot the DL as he came in and then back off once he headed for the elevators. Problem was there were about 50 people in one small hallway so it was impossible to back off after shooting. So here comes the Dalai Lama headed to the elevator and he shakes my hand!

NYC/NJ Wedding - Jeff & Kathryn Sept 2009

Jeff, a fellow Leica user had emailed a few months ago wondering if I would be available to photograph his wedding Sept 26th in NYC. Wow, this was luck, my wife and I were coming up to NYC to see U2 (yes again) that very weekend! Of course I'd love to shoot the wedding!

Now I have to mention this was the first time photographing a wedding on a sailboat, I did not expect all the up and downs, thought I was going overboard a few times. I'm 6'2" and the short railing on the boat was not going to save me. But what fun it was! Joshua Dwain, a wonderful NYC photographer assisted me with the wedding.

After a brief ride across the Hudson on the Ventura with Captain Pat (do check out his NYTimes piece), we docked and went on to the reception in Jersey City. The area reminded me allot of the Warehouse District in New Orleans. Side note - Jeff makes some mean cocktails and I'm always impressed when a non-New Orleanian knows how to make a sazerac.

Big thanks to Jeff and Kathryn, and of course we'll add Ted in there as well!

Leica lenses on your Nikon

I was just sent this link by a fellow Leica user. Seems you can adapt Leica R lenses to your Nikons now. Pretty cool and really not $$$.
